Dear Senator or Representative [Name]:
Numerous studies find cannabis is effective with a range of health conditions.
A study reported in Neuropsychopharmacology provides preliminary epidemiological evidence that “cannabis use may contribute to reducing the association between post-traumatic stress disorder and severe depressive and suicidal states.” SOURCE: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31684805/
A study reported in the British Medical Journal found that marijuana use was independently associated with a lower prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM). Decreased prevalence of diabetes in marijuana users: cross-sectional data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. SOURCE: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22368296/
Findings in the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes suggest that cannabis seems to have an anti-inflammatory effect on HIV patients, and may reduce risk of neurocognitive impairment. SOURCE: https://tinyurl.com/J-AIDS-CannabisAnti-inflammat
Headache published a study suggesting medicinal use of cannabis may have a therapeutic role for a multitude of diseases, particularly chronic pain disorders, including headaches. The research literature suggests a role for medicinal cannabis and cannabinoids in several types of headache disorders including migraine and cluster headache. “Cannabis contains an extensive number of pharmacological and biochemical compounds, of which only a minority are understood, so many potential therapeutic uses likely remain undiscovered. Cannabinoids appear to modulate and interact at many pathways inherent to migraine, triptan mechanisms of action, and opiate pathways, suggesting potential synergistic or similar benefits.” SOURCE: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26015168/
My request is that you consider that prohibition of cannabis has harmful effects on North Carolinians and the state budget. Please support expanding access to medical cannabis.
Thank you,
